Brian Westbrook Torches Falcons Defense in Win Over Atlanta

Over his career in a Philadelphia Eagles jersey, running back Brian Westbrook has fought a lot adversity, mostly trying to stay healthy.

On Sunday against Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons, Westbrook was nothing short of spectacular as he absolutely torched Atlanta's defense with 209 total yards (167 rushing, 42 receiving) and 2 touchdowns.

All season long Westbrook has been battling his body (ribs) trying to stay healthy and get on the gridiron every Sunday. When the Westbrook is healthy, there aren't many running backs in the NFL that are better than number 36 and that were never more obvious than in the 27-14 victory over the Falcons last weekend.

Although Donovan McNabb didn't make a huge impact in the air with 253 yards and no TDs, he showed that he can still hurt opposing defenses with his feet as he rushed for 25 yards and a touchdown, but he really didn't need to do anything but hand the ball off to his talented back to seal the deal for Philadelphia.

Competing in the NFC East this season is no easy task with the New York Giants looking very good at 6-1, the Redskins at 5-2 and the Dallas Cowboys underachieving, but banged up at 5-3 the Eagles have their work cut out for them trying to make it into the playoffs.

The Falcons on the other hand looked pretty good coming into this game with rookie quarterback Matt Ryan looking like a veteran thus far and consistently hooking up with wide receiver Roddy White who he connected with for the team's only two touchdowns in the game. Ryan played well throwing for 277 yards and two touchdowns to White, he had two costly interceptions.

Now that Philly is 4-3, they should get a fairly easy victory over the Seattle Seahawks in week 9 as Seattle has not been the same team this season, but the real challenge will be against Eli Manning and the 6-1 New York Giants in week 10 which promising to be a battle.
